Young people have a right to advocate on their own behalf by utilizing their unique voices. It is time to create a safe space for Mississippi youth to learn how to make their voices heard. MYSummit empowers young people to become effective advocates in the state.
Save the Date!
January 19-21, 2019
Teen Health Mississippi and its partners will host the 2019 Mississippi Youth Summit (MYSummit) January 19 -21, 2019 in Jackson, Mississippi.
Apply to Attend MYSummit 2019
The year’s summit theme is “Unconventional Advocacy: Going Beyond the Know.” We aim to provide young people the opportunity to learn and experience a variety of skill-building breakout sessions that will increase their awareness around issues affecting youth across the state, enhance their advocacy knowledge and skills, and equip them with the tools to build sustainable campaigns that advocate for young people around the state. We aim to train at least 50 young people, ages 15-24, on advocacy to increase their civic literacy and political engagement on youth rights. We will conduct rolling interviews via phone November 19 through November 30, 2018, or until we reach capacity, whichever occurs first. We will provide free accommodation for those who live 70 miles outside of Jackson. We strongly encourage youth of color, differently-abled, parenting or pregnant, lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer, and/or immigrant youth to apply.
Spark Youth Fellowship Program
The Mississippi Youth Summit (MYSummit) Planning Committee is now accepting applicants for our inaugural Spark Youth Fellowship Program. Through the Fellowship, we will provide two (2) selected Spark Fellows, ages 15 -24, with project support to develop ideas that address challenges that impact youth in their communities.
Do you need funding and help to develop an idea you have to address a challenge that impacts young people where you live? If yes, then apply for the Spark Youth Fellowship Program! Completed proposal ideas and all supporting documentation must be submitted via the online submission form below by 11:59 PM CST on November 19, 2018.
